So, the brand spankin’ new Library of Birmingham officially opens tomorrow.
Although the exterior wasn’t to my taste during the building phase, I have to say it’s grown on me somewhat – and the apparent promise of a truly splendiphorous interior is what has me excited. Culturally, the £188 million revamp is a bit of a corker for us mild and meek Brummies: Neil Gaiman’s saying his bit, Taliban survivor Malala Yousafzai will officially open the place and an upcoming Culture Show will reveal all for those who won’t be visiting it within the next week.
Me? Hopefully, I’m gonna be doing my best Belle and singing amongst the stacks this very weekend. Shushing be damned.
